What is a Resistance Tube?

Are you looking for a way to add muscle tone, and you have heard of resistance tubes but aren’t quite sure what they are?

Here is a quick introduction to resistance tubes, the different choices you have if you want to buy some resistance tubing for yourself, as well as effective ways to use resistance tubes to change your home workout.

The basic premise of resistance tubes is that using objects that resist muscle movement is an easy way to strengthen those muscles. Just as lifting weights helps add muscle mass and strength, pulling against something that resists (such as, of course, a resistance tube), helps muscles get stronger in different ways.

This is where resistance tubes come into play. They are very basic in design: simple, long, plastic or rubber tubes that are hollow inside and made of a very sturdy yet somewhat pliable material.

One of the differences in different resistance tube styles that you will find is that they are designed to provide different levels of resistance. These levels are often equated to different weights, such as a 5-pound resistance tube. This does not mean the tube actually weighs five pounds, but rather that it exerts resistance such that your muscles work just as much as if they were pulling against a five pound weight.

In this way, resistance tubes are incredibly effective at providing a very portable, very affordable way to strengthen many different muscles with one simple device.

Exercises for resistance tubes are as numerous and different as the many different muscles in the body itself. You can use resistance tubes to strengthen your arms and upper body, legs and lower body, and even your core muscles (stomach and back). You can use the band just by yourself, or use an anchor to add additional functionality (with an object such as a door frame), or even use the resistance tube with a workout partner to help you both build strength.

Whether for adding muscle tone, burning fat, or simply increasing flexibility, resistance tubes are a very easy way to add something different to your daily exercise routine.
